Barbara Barry and HBF celebrate furniture designs to mark 30 years of collaboration
Promotion: American designer Barbara Barry is marking 30 years of collaboration with furniture brand HBF by celebrating eight of her most iconic products.
Barry began working with HBF in 1994 with launches including the 1930s-informed Brentwood chair, and the intervening years have seen her produce more than 50 pieces for the brand.
The Brentwood is now among eight seating and table designs highlighted by HBF in their NYC flagship showroom to mark the 30-year milestone.
It joins the gently contouring Scoop Lounge Chair, the Salon Seating Collection designed for building lobbies, the Charlotte Perriand-inspired Charlotte Lounge Chair, and the metal-legged seating Ski collection.
Also figuring prominently in the celebration of Barry's work are the steel-and-glass Double Take table collection, the organically-shaped Egg Table Collection and the circular Carousel Coffee Table, all featuring contemporary finishes.
Barry is known for synthesising different traditions as well as an understated style that incorporates elements of the culture and architecture of Southern California.
"As both designer and entrepreneur, her career has been dedicated to shaping the American aesthetic to create calming and welcoming interiors," said Casey Baxter, VP and General Manager at HBF.
"While each collection has a distinctive look, one constant thread throughout is simplicity – something Barry strives for in everything she creates."
This year will also see Barry and HBF launch the new KUBI Lounge Collection of modular chairs and tables.
Defined by angular wooden frames juxtaposed with rounded backrest and upholstered seats, KUBI includes a lounge chair, two-seater lounge, ottoman, bench, coffee table, modular tables and side tables.
"We're especially proud of the KUBI wooden modular lounge collection – a rarity in the industry," said Baxter.
"In crafting KUBI, I explored the idea of less is more and how pure geometry can be supportive, working closely with HBF to get just the right sit and proportions," said Barry.
"It speaks intuitively, inviting individuals to experience its allure without the need for explanation."
